Programs

Intensive Instructional Support Program (IISP): The focus of IISP is to promote learning for students by providing

instruction in an educational environment designed to develop functional independence in communication, social, behavioral, and

community skills. This program is located at the Education & Activity Center in Fremont.

 

Moderate Support Program (MSP): The focus of the students in the program work toward greater independence, at

home and in the community, through academic and functional activities. Students work toward goals in areas that

include daily living skills, functional academics, appropriate behavior, community-based instruction, and campus work-based placements. This program is located at the Education & Activity Center in Fremont.

 

Severe Multiple Impairments Program (SXI): The focus of the SXI program is elementary to age twenty-six students

who demonstrate more profound physical, medical, and cognitive needs. The SXI program assists students in reaching

goals focusing on their environment, mobility, and appropriate functional skills. Students in the SXI program have their

intense needs met by highly trained staff, guided by a registered nurse. This program has two branches, one at Pathfinder Elementary (K-2) in Fremont and the other located at the Education & Activity Center.

 

Transition Program: Transition instruction emphasizes the development of both vocational and daily living skills

necessary for students to become productive adults and community members. The program is a post high school special

education program for young adults ages 18-26. The focus of this program is working on independence. Students in this

program may have recently begun living on their own or have the desire to live on their own/share a home and need

extra time beyond their high school experience to work on money management, navigating their community, self-care

skills, and job exploration training. This program is located at the Education & Activity Center in Fremont.

 

Middle School Moderate Cognitive Impairment Program (MOCI): This program is designated for Middle School age

students (5th – 8th) who are eligible for special education services under the Cognitive Impairment eligibility category.

This classroom is designed to strengthen foundational literacy, math, and writing skills as well as provide instruction in

social and daily living skills. The primary goal of this classroom is skill acquisition. This program is located at Newaygo Middle School.
